Each morning I joined the peaceful Buddhist prayers, which were a serene commencement to my days of hiking in the stunning landscapes of Mount Haguro. The culinary highlight was undoubtedly the exquisite Shojin Ryori meals, a beautifully crafted vegetarian feast showcasing local ingredients. It was hard not to feel enriched by each bite, as the flavors resonated deeply with the surrounding nature. My spacious room, featuring a traditional tatami floor and a lovely seating area, became a perfect retreat after a day of exploration, reflecting a sense of home that is often missing in traditional lodging. While the futon may take some getting used to for a Westerner, the warmth of the hosts, coupled with the quiet beauty of the surroundings, ensured that I thoroughly enjoyed my stay.
